What is Pilates?

Pilates is a comprehensive method designed by Joseph Pilates over 100 years ago. He firmly believed that modern lifestyle, bad posture and inefficient breathing lay at the root of poor health.

The Pilates Method can work for everyone, regardless of fitness level.

Body Control Pilates is a medically approved system of exercise which is very effective in dealing with stress, pain, weakness and bad posture. It is holistic in nature.  Specific problem-areas can be targeted by an exercise, but always in relation to the rest of the body.

Exercises focus on awareness of breath and alignment of spine, and are designed to strengthen deep torso and abdominal muscles, and to increase flexibility and stability.

Central to the Method is awareness of your own body, and because of this you will be able to carry over what you learn into your everyday life, so that over time you will be stronger, with better posture, suffer little or no pain, run far less risk of future injury and increase your sense of relaxation and wellbeing.
